La Casa de Don Santiago & La Casa de Doņa Irma sleeps two to eight guests and offers 2 large bedrooms, each with 1 double bed, comfortable mattress, writing desk, reading lamp, night table, ceiling fan, desk, extra large closet, private balcony w/ valley view, private bath w/ granite countertop, hot water, and large mirror. Option to add one or two single beds to each bedroom. Second floor offers plenty of natural light and feature high ceilings with hand hewn wood beams. The kitchen is fully equipped with granite countertops, refrigerator, electric range, microwave, coffeemaker, chrome shelving, storage room, pots & pans, all utensils and purified water. Breakfast bar & dining area with lovely hardwood table. Living room with single sofa bed, color tv w/ cable, DVD player & library. Laundry facilities. Reference library with books on Maya archeology, travel and history. Wireless Internet.

Daily maid service included in rate. All bed linens, towels, bath soap, blanket and quilt are provided.

Copan Ruinas is a quaint, cobblestone mountain village of apprx 10,000 inhabitants. The impressive Maya archeological park, which has been designated a World Patrimony Site by the United Nations is a 30 minute walk from Casa de Don Santiago along a pleasant, meandering stone path past cow pasture. Just after the main site, the archeological site of Las Sepulturas awaits visitors with a spectacular, secluded wooded setting and many well preserved structures. There are also museums to explore; the world class Maya Sculpture Museum, the Copan Archeology Museum, Peabody Photo Exhibition, Copan Digital Museum and Casa Kinich, an interactive Maya museum.
Copan is situated at an elevation of 1,800 ft and has a near perfect year round climate with temperatures averaging 78F. Days are warm … often hot! … most are sunny … and evenings are cool and comfortable. As we like to say …. In Copan … Its springtime ... all the time!

Nearby excursions include the Macaw Mountain Tropical Bird Park. The Rastrojón, Las Sepulturas, Rio Amarillo & El Puente Archeological Parks. Hot springs, coffee plantation tours, waterfalls, caving, hiking in nearby hills with lovely panoramic valley views, nature & birding tours and visits to local Chorti Maya Indian villages.

There is convenient, comfortable and quick transport available to Guatemala and San Pedro Sula with connections to Tela, La Ceiba and the Bay Islands.

The village of Copan has a variety of restaurants all located within a couple of blocks of the Central Square. Most eateries specialize in local fare, simple hearty meals based on fresh, local ingredients such as grilled chicken or beef, beans, rice, country cream, fried bananas, pickled veggies and requisite tortillas. For non-meat eaters there is locally farm grown tilapia fish which are fried whole to a golden crusty brown. Washed down with a local pilsner beer or a fresh whipped tropical shake and you have the makings of a Copan style country feast. Weekend evenings, strolling mariachi bands serenade diners for tips. For those seeking a hit of home there is pizza, veggie burgers and Asian inspired dishes.
